I have finished the new portfolio illustration on my portfolio webpage. Instead of having an illustration of a boring folder I now have this illustration.
A book full om creativity popping out.
Maybe I’ll add some colours later. I will always be fixing and tweaking stuff on the webpage.. and it will always be changing to something awesome.
Visit my portfolio webpage on www.marichris.com.
and stay tuned!

I was tidying my workstation at home today and found some drawings I made a couple of weeks ago. I took some pictures of them to share them with you. :-)

I was using pictures and sketches as reference. Do not remember where I found my references though…
Anyway, hope you like them. :)

Since I was little I have always been creative. I loved to draw and this is something I have been doing my whole life.
To be honest I think my drawing skills are a lot better than my digital drawing skills. Probably because I have been doing it more, and I almost never draw digitally. But last week I experienced something that really made me wish I drew more digital….
The boring thing about traditional drawing is that there is no “ctrl + Z” in the real world. You have the eraser off course but sometimes that is not enough to fix something wrong on you drawings. You also do not have any backup of you drawings which you usually have of your files on the computer. So if something happens with the drawing, it is destroyed forever!!!! And all the hours put in to your work is wasted!
Well that happened to me this week!

I drew this drawing, it is not finished yet, and I was about to finish it when I managed to get blue tack smudged over my drawing!! And there was nothing I could do to fix it!! I seriously hate the feeling I get when something like that happens…. baaaah!
So I do not feel like drawing for a while now……….
Have a wonderful Sunday!

I’ve become a huge cat lover.
He was my sisters cat. But he disappeared and never returned. He was a cat with a great personality. He loved to play and cuddle.
And because of him I have made so many cat drawings.
I made this drawing of Lurven as a tribute to him. I think that Lurven might be dead but I hope he is still alive. I have heard several stories of cats retuning home after a year or two, and even longer than that.
This is a drawing of the neighbours cat when he still was only a kitten. His name is Prikken and is still alive. This drawing is only a quick sketch. I think I used about 10-15 minutes to finish it.
This drawing is a drawing of an illustration from a book called ” Anatomy Drawing School”. The illustration in the book shows the muscles of the cat.
This is a drawing of a cheetah I made. I used this photo as a reference. I used several hours to complete the drawing.
Sometimes I make drawings of cats with cartoon style. Here is one of them.
And here is another one with a different character.
And I have these really basic silhuett cat drawings that I have recently shared with you earlier this summer.
Lets hope there will be more cat drawings from me and that my skills as an artist will develop and become awesome one day.
Also visit my deviantart and portfolio page for more stuff!!!!
Stay tuned! Peace and love…

At the moment I am working with my portfolio and is currently working on a private project on my own. I downloaded some free rigs from the internet to have something to work with (I’m not talented when it comes to rigging, and I don’t like doing it either).
I downloaded these two rigs for this project. They are really good! I think it is one of the best rigs I have ever tried.

The rigs are downloaded from www.creativecrash.com. You can find the rig for the dragon here, and the ball here.
Before I started animating I started sketching out how I want the story to be, and writing a little bit about the characters.
I named the dragon Maya, and is a female, although it’s originally named Nico by it’s creator. I wanted Maya to act like a cat. In the beginning she looks very scary for the little ball which is being hunted down by her. But all she’s doing is playing with it just like a kitten plays around. After Maya catches the ball, she thinks she killed it. Maya gets sad, because it was not her intentions. The ball is only pretending to be dead, and runs of when it gets the chance.
This is how my simple storyboard looks like.- Or it’s more like thumb nailing.
I also made a simple Animatic to plan out my animation.
While blocking out I have also been looking at video references. Since the dragon had a personality like a cat I wanted her to move like a cat. Therfore I looked at cat videos on youtube and vimeo.
Well, I think I am struggling to get the perfect landing on my dragon at the moment.
I have also tried to act out how a cat walks like… I wish I had a cat and a slow motion camera to get all the references I need.
This is a simple render of my block out.
I am trying to add as many details I can add in this stage to make it easier when I start smoothing the curves. Since I’m a perfectionist, there is a lot of things I still want to fix before I feel I can move on the the next animation stage. For instance I want to change some camera angles, and I have to fix the movements when it is getting ready to sit down. I also have to fix the ball which is moving position when it is squashed by the paws of the dragon.
I will give you more updates about this project when I get some more progress! :-)
Stay tuned!
